The Ulta Beauty New Hue Shadow Switching Pan ($9) enables you to use the same makeup brush for multiple colors – without washing in between. The simple metal packaging contains a sponge inside of it.
It’s not a sponge like you clean dishes with, it reminds me of charcoal sponges you find in fish tank filters and pumps. It has a plastic type texture with loops and holes in it.
The concept is that you rub your dry used eyeshadow brush across the rough sponge and it loosens and removes the shadow from the brush. You can then use the same brush with another shadow color without fear of the first color bleeding through.
Everything gets used dry. There’s no need to wet your brushes or the Shadow Switching Pan sponge.
When the sponge gets dirty, you simply remove it and rinse it. Once it dries you can put it right back into the tin.
I’ve been using this for over a month now and I think it works great. I don’t necessarily use it so I can use one brush for an entire eye look. I use it to prolong the period between washing my brushes.
When applying my eye makeup, I use it on all of those brushes as I go. It keeps my eyeshadow brushes from getting packed up with shadow between washes.
You can tell that it’s working too. After using it a few times, eyeshadow powder falls to the bottom of the tin underneath the sponge.
The smaller white sponge in the middle is for cream or wet shadows or liners but I have not used that portion and probably won’t.
I don’t think this is a must have beauty item but it does work well. I could see this being very useful for someone who doesn’t have a lot of shadow brushes to work with.
What do you think? Is this something you would try?
